Sampler Quilts

Sampler quilts are more traditional in design and to me, a joy to make!
The blocks used are historic, first being produced in the USA in 1840 and often a sampler quilt was simply another way in which a block style quilt top could be organised, and many samplers were made by individuals and groups. As the popularity of the block-style format swept the country in the years before the Civil War, sampler quilts may well have served as textbooks of block-style design, a way of passing patterns from friend to friend, both nearby and far away. Some samplers were even assembled of blocks made by friends or family members who lived in different parts of the country.

The sampler quilts do take longer to make ~ each block is made from between 3 to 8 different fabrics....hand cut and sewn into a unique design, sometimes being made up from over 20 small pieces of fabric.

Depending on the size of the quilt, up to 50 blocks can be used, and all are different in either design or fabric choices.

If this quilt is to be gifted, I would recommend placing your order at least 3 months in advance.

The joy of sampler quilts is that we can incorporate as many different fabrics as you'd like, making it a true lasting family heirloom.
